The Self Discovery Challenge

Do you know who you are? If someone were to say “tell me a little about yourself” are you prepared for an answer? If you aren’t that is perfectly okay and actually – it’s normal. More than likely self-discovery is not something at the forefront of your mind.

But should it be? How we are received by others can have a monumental impact on the course of our lives. A study was done by a professor at the University of Texas and he discovered that people who had clarity about their personal strengths and weaknesses were more likely to get that dream job and at a better wage than those that didn’t. If you do a little research on yourself and gather some important intel, you can use the information to your advantage, and most likely, you will notice more opportunities coming your way.

Now What?

Now that you have all this information about yourself, what do you do? Get organized with the information. If you know your weakness is communication, find out how you can improve that skill. If you know you have strong computer skills, determine how you can leverage that skill to your benefit. Create an action plan. This self-discovery challenge sets you up perfectly to start a personal development plan. Also, some of this information could be useful for creating or updating your resume. Thought about a career change? Now you have a better understanding of what kind of occupation may suit you, and the kind of positions you might consider. Remember, the purpose of this information is to benefit you internally, or monetarily. Use it to your advantage.

Check back in a couple months and see if these answers still remain the same. Perhaps you have improved a weakness and can now look for other areas for improvement. Create a habit of continuous reflection and growth. You will be surprised at how much opportunity lay before you when you utilize your knowledge and skills effectively.

“You are unique. You have different talents and abilities. You don’t have to always follow in the footsteps of others. And most importantly, you should always remind yourself that you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing and have a responsibility to develop the talents you have been given.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

Other Self-Discovery Tests

There are tons of other tests that can give you in depth descriptions about your personality in relation to your behaviors, motives and values. Although these tests are used by psychologists and doctors it is important to understand that it is a best guess at your personality and it’s perfectly normal to disagree or feel impartial to the results. We are all unique and sometimes personality tests can make us feel like we can only be result A or B. Consider, however, what the results say because sometimes, they can open our eyes to something we didn’t notice about ourselves. I personally have done a few that were very accurate.

Of course, we are always growing and your answers will change over time. Like and share this with others – you never know who could really benefit from this information!
